I obtained my bachelor's degree in sociology/ anthropology from Earlham College in Indiana and earned my master's degree in social work from the University of Chicago. Prior to going into private practice I worked in a variety of mental health settings in different parts of the country.
For four years I provided individual and group therapy for adults at a community mental health center in Chicago. Later I worked with children in a school setting in northern California.
Throughout
the past years of my career, in addition to offering therapy,
I have enjoyed offering short courses and workshops in self-esteem
building, coping with shyness, overcoming bulimia, and stress
management.
In recent
years I have expanded my practice to include the use of art
in healing. I have seen how artistic expression can enhance
mental health and bring zest and enthusiasm to people who
struggle with depression, stress, and identity issues. What
I like most about being a therapist is the continuous opportunity
for personal growth. As my clients grow and change, so do
I. It is immensely rewarding to assist people in the process
of moving from distress and confusion to greater clarity,
energy, self-mastery, and improved relationships.
